Caregiver

Job Summary:

The Caregiver is a frontline position acting as a representative for PJS Care Services LLC and providing the services offered by the company. The Caregiver's duties are not limited to those listed as the position has a wide scope of duties, which are at times dependent on the Client's needs yet always under the auspices of the company. The Caregiver will work mostly independently in carrying out a plan of treatment developed by PJS Care Services’ Caregiving Supervisor.

 

The Caregiver should enthusiastically involve the Client in the Care program and help provide the Client with the basic standards of healthy living which, among other things, includes helping the Client engage in Physical Activity, Mental Stimulation, Relaxation Activities and Receive Adequate Nutrition.

 

Requirements:

  • Significant caregiving Experience (2-5 years minimum preferred)

  • Valid Driver's License and Reliable Transportation

  • Ability to Work Independently

  • Excellent Communication and Listening Skills

  • Ability to Act in a Compassionate and Caring Manner

  • Physically and mentally fit to handle demands of caregiving

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment

  • Emotionally understanding of frequently changing Client temperament 

 

Responsibilities Include:

The following list is a guideline of possible duties to be performed independently or as a group of duties in the course of working with the client. The Caregiver's duties are not limited to those listed:

  • Companionship: One of the most important aspects of PJS Care Services will be providing clients with a strong sense of self-esteem and independence. Taking a genuine interest in the Client, their life and environment will help create a true sense of companionship. Whether it is playing a favorite board or card game, reading, taking a stroll or visiting with friends and neighbors, companionship will be an important aspect of the position. 

  • Therapeutic services: This may include the performance of simple procedures as an extension of the Client's Therapeutic activities such as helping the Client with Crocheting, jewelry-making or weaving. This may also include talking with the Client about his/her day.

  • Household Services: The CNA may assistance with daily living activities may include dusting, washing floors, vacuuming carpets, tidying up furniture,

  • changing bedding, scrubbing the bathroom as well as pre-washing, washing, drying, ironing and folding laundry, along with defrosting refrigerators/freezers, cleaning ovens/stoves and china cabinets, plus caring for house plants, taking out garbage and general cleaning and organizing of living spaces as required or requested. The CNA may provide other household services essential to proper health care in the home. 

  • Kitchen Work: Grocery shopping, preparing meals, cooking, baking, serving, assisting with eating, washing and drying dishes and general tidying up as necessary.

  • Transportation and Escort: A Caregiver may drive their car or the client's car and transport the client to an appointment or errand. The Caregiver themselves may also run errands for the Clients.

  • Personal Care: This includes assisting Clients with: grooming needs such as hair care, shaving, cleaning teeth/dentures tub baths, showers, sponge baths, and bed baths dressing and undressing mobilization activities including turning, transferring, exercising, and walking toilet and/or commode needs eating or feeding monitoring vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse and respiration (under the supervision of a nurse) This also includes reminding the client to take their prescription medications and assisting them in taking medications that are ordinarily self-administered, under the supervision of a nurse. This may also include other services to meet the Client's physical maintenance and supportive needs. 

  • Other Types of Assistance with Activities of daily living (i.e., ambulation, dressing, exercise, and feeding, positioning, transfers) and personal care (bathing, hair care, and toileting) that are essential for the well-being of the Client.

  • Working under a Registered Nurse: The CNA will be required to assist in carrying out a written Care Plan developed by the Nurse Supervisor in the Agency. The CNA will be required to report changes in the Client's condition to the supervising nurse and may be required to complete records documenting the Client's condition and adherence to a Plan of Care.

 

General Notes:

The Caregiver will play a part in ensuring a safe working environment for themselves and their clients. There may be emergency situations where the Caregiver will have to react quickly with sound judgment. The scope of duties described in this document may not include all duties to be performed by the Caregiver and is subject to change.

 

Place of Employment:

Client homes and work sites outside of the Client's Home as required.

 

Work Hours:

This position will typically work a day shift roughly encompassing the hours of 7AM to 7PM, but the Caregiver may also be required to work other hours including nights, weekends, and live-in.

 

Reports to:

PJS Care Services’ Agency Manager, Nurse Supervisor, Caregiving Supervisor, Supervising RN(s) and/or LPN(s).
